The board's compact size, measuring approximately 25mm x 24mm, makes it an ideal choice for mobile applications prioritising size and image quality. It establishes a connection with the Raspberry Pi through a short ribbon cable. The camera, in turn, links to the BCM2835/BCM2836 processor on the Pi via the CSI bus, a high-speed interface responsible for transmitting pixel data from the camera to the processor. This bus travels along the ribbon cable, securely attaching the camera board to the Pi.

The camera sensor boasts a native resolution of 5 megapixels and a fixed focus lens. It can capture high-quality still images at a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels and support various video formats, including 1080p30, 720p60, and 640x480p60/90.
